April Resident of the Month

April 11, 2023
In this month’s resident profile, we are talking with one of our long-term male residents, Robert Lloyd!

Bob was delivered by his grandmother, who later raised him at the family home in Geneva, Ohio. His grandfather ran the Lake Erie Feed Company. Bob is an alumnus of the Spencer School in Geneva. The school was named in honor of Platt Rogers Spencer, who lived and taught in Geneva and founded the Spenserian method of penmanship. Bob attended that school from grades one through twelve, graduating as Class Valedictorian. He went on to graduate from Bowling Green University, class of 1954, with degrees in Psychology and Speech. Before being drafted into the United States Army, Bob worked as a Speech Therapist on Cleveland’s east side.

After taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test, upon enlistment in the Army, Bob was told that his AFQT (Armed Forces Qualification Test) score was the highest that had been seen in years. He went into Army Intelligence and is a proud veteran of the Korean conflict.

After his service, Bob went on to attend graduate school at Kent State University, earning a Business Degree in 1960. He did this while working for Goodyear Aerospace, east of Akron, and marrying Miss Kent State University in 1957! Bob and his wife had four children: Bobby, who lives in Maine, David in North Carolina, Elizabeth in California and Billy, who resides in Indonesia. Bob now has eleven grandchildren and five great-grandkids.

The Lloyd family lived in Columbus for 14 years, as Bob worked for North American Aviation, a major American aerospace manufacturer that designed and built several notable aircraft and spacecraft on the Aerospace side. Through the merger, the company later went on to become North American Rockwell. Bob was promoted to Senior Corporate Executive in the Los Angeles, California, area. After such a prestigious career and some world traveling, Bob chose Jefferson, Ohio, as the place he wanted to retire and had one of his aunts scout around for a suitable Victorian house with the proper character. He settled on the perfect find on East Walnut Street and spent many happy years living there.

Now a resident here at Jefferson Healthcare Center, Bob enjoys socializing with the staff, his friends who visit, and family members. He enjoys many of the facility’s activity groups, such as Bingo, game time, and Trivia. He has often entertained his fellow residents by relating jokes from his ever-ready yellow jokebook!

If you run into Bob, call him, “Bond. James Bond,” as he often asks to be called! It's truly a pleasure serving you at Jefferson Healthcare. Thank you for your service!
